Océane Hooks-Camilleri
Researcher
In her most recent role, Océane directed a dining facility during Operation Allies Welcome, the coordinated effort to safely resettle Afghans in the United States. She managed a multicultural team of 110+ staff in the largest dining facility feeding up to 8 thousand Afghan guests a meal period. This work allowed her to experience first-hand the opportunity to fold her peacebuilding knowledge into her leadership style within this humanitarian response setting. This experience has given her a research interest in the humanitarian development peace nexus.
Océane holds an M.S in Global Affairs with a concentration in peacebuilding and a specialization in data analysis from NYU’s School of Professional Studies. She is also a certified mediator. Her previous PREP work includes research for Al Salaam University in Kuwait as they chart their path to becoming the first University founded on peacebuilding principles in their region. She also engaged in participatory action research in collaboration with a Colombian graduate student and the Indigenous Pijao community in Chaparral Colombia. This research explored what peace and reparations meant to the Pijao. Her graduate thesis research, “Creating a Common Language: Peacebuilding and Corporations,” won the first annual Student Peace Research award.
Océane speaks conversational French and Spanish and hopes to continue to develop her language skills as they support her understanding of peace from a variety of cultural perspectives.
